Who we are

We're Mel and Rich.
We needed help, not wellness.

Husband and wife, parents to humans and animals. We love the outdoors, exploring the world, and good coffee. We're also paramedics, with more than 15 years of Shift Work experience each.

15 years in the trenches

This is just how it is.

For over 15 years we've worked every Shift at every hour — nights, weekends, public holidays, Christmas. We've missed birthdays, dragged ourselves through 3am brain fog, and told ourselves this is just how it is.

It's not. Or at least it doesn't have to be.

About 10 years in we knew we were burnt out. Cooked. But we couldn't afford to quit and we could never see ourselves working a 9-5. So we started digging. Research papers, sleep science, nutrition, supplementation. Some of it worked. Most of it didn't. But slowly we figured out what genuinely made a difference. We turned ourselves into crash test dummies, figured out what works, and couldn't stop talking about it.

Better sleep. Faster recovery. Thinking clearly on a Shift instead of just surviving it.

What Shift Work does to you.

There are well over a million Shift Workers in Australia alone. Wrecked sleep, gut issues, cardiovascular strain, burnout, nervous system dysregulation — the research is clear on what Shift Work does to your body over time. Most Shift Workers know the toll and assume it's just part of the job. It doesn't have to be. With the right habits and the right tools, you can start to feel more like yourself again, no matter what your roster looks like.

Shift Focus exists for the ones who refuse to make do.

Where we came from

Kiwis. Paramedics. Shift Workers.

We're both Kiwis, raised in small towns in New Zealand where looking after each other wasn't a brand value, it was just how life worked. We met studying Paramedicine in Auckland, moved to Melbourne in 2011, and have been deep in the Shift Work trenches ever since.

Shift Focus is a natural extension of that upbringing. Built on community, care, and lived experience.
